Lovely little site I came across by accident. I especially liked reading some of those recent “Spotlight” issues covering local people and places.
Now,how about starting a genealogy or family history section, to generate even more interest in the magazine, more hits for Seghill, and, who knows, possibily even more customers for advertisers.
“Spotlight” (or even the main website), might be a good place for it, since the number of people born in and around what we once called Seaton Valley who now live outside the district, but still have local connections, must run into many thousands.
Lots of them, from personal experience, spend many hours (and a good deal of cash!) researching their family history and often run into what genealogists call “brick walls”, places where the family tree ends because further information is not readily available.
Often, a simple message, containing a fact or two, is all that is required to get the family history moving once more.
It’s also a great way to make friends, find long-lost relatives and virtually travel the world without even leaving home. Hardly a week goes by that I don’t make new contacts in various parts of the globe.
Only a week or two ago I discovered some of my relatives used to trade with a butcher’s shop in one of the western states of the USA. Nothing remarkable about that it would seem. But when one of the butcher assistants turns out to have the name “Butch Cassidy” a far different picture starts to emerge!
